Graduation banquet..

Last night was our son's graduation banquet at our church. It was quite the whirlwind leading up to it. Between work schedules around here, Wonder Schmud's prep time and trip to YC in Edmonton, AB last weekend, and then trying to catch up from that and prepare for other things coming up, it was a crazy couple of weeks around here.

We actually had very little knowledge of what was happening for this grad banquet. Wonder Schmud has been part of the youth group at church but because of work schedules wasn't always able to attend gatherings. It was a really nice event and being a homeschooled family, we appreciated that our son had the opportunity to be part of such a celebration when a lot of homeschoolers don't have the same opportunity. I must remember to write a thank you to the youth leaders and to the church as a whole. I don't think these people get near enough thanks for all they do for our families. They can be unsung heroes in the lives of our children.


It started out with a little time for visiting around the punch bowl... and a few photos were taken while we were waiting. Then was the meal of baked potatoes, rolls, ceasar salad, corn, and ham. Yummy! It was very good. Certainly it was worth the $5/plate for those who had guests attend. The grads and their parents were fed at no charge. Then dessert was cheesecake with either cherry or blueberry topping. There was also the choice of a chocolate swirl cheesecake for those who don't like fruit topping. The entire meal was thoroughly enjoyed!


Once the meal was completed, there was a little program. It started with a slide show of each of the graduates through their life and an impromptu skit put on by the C&C (College and Careers) group, followed by a message from the youth pastor to the graduates about not being afraid to ask for help and guidance when hard times hit and when they are confused.. and to not be afraid to listen to God's still small voice even if it seems to go against the flow. Of course, there were encouragements to keep a connection with God through whatever they decide to do with their lives. The graduates got an opportunity to respond... but to their parents. Of the 16 graduates being honoured during the evening, about half had an actual planned "speech" of what they wanted to say. Some stammered and stuttered while some cried. It was quite touching.

The event ended with a few songs and a closing prayer.

After it was all done, the C&C group took the graduates bowling to welcome them into the fold. Wonder Schmud had a great time and I was so happy for him.


Mr.B and I, his parents, were very proud of our Wonder Schmud as well. I hope he will stay the course and not get sidetracked on his way to completing the next set of goals in his life.
